An Ear of Grain in Silence Reaped is the culmination of Nathan Byrne and Centa Schumacher's summer residency at the Art Ark Gallery, where the artists have had 6 weeks to access the gallery to install a large scale multi-sensory exhibition. The show's title refers to the central epiphany of the Eleusinian Mysteries: a wordless knowledge, once gained, that altered the seeker forever. Drawing from sources that range from Homeric hymns to the film The Neverending Story, the show includes projections, photographic prints, and 16-foot tall soft sculptures. At the center of the gallery is an immersive structure where viewers enter and are bathed in an otherworldly light. With this exhibition, Byrne and Schumacher create a space for personal revelation and outward discovery.
