AKITU, the Assyrian New Year is known to be the oldest celebration in history with records dating back over 4,000 years.
Today Assyrians celebrate Akitu on the 1st of April (Kha b-Nisan) using the Gregorian calendar; this ongoing celebration of
the renewal and rebirth of nature is testament to the resilience of this ancient community. The artists in this exhibition
are showcasing contemporary art in a variety of media inspired by the millennia-old festival of Akitu. We are excited to be
showcasing brand new artwork by Atra Givarkes, Esther Elia, Maryam Yousif, Rabel Betshmuel, and Romane Iskaria.
